
Honchen Temple Festival, Vietnam is celebrated in the Hon Chen Temple which is situated in Ngoc Tran Mountain, which is about 10 kilometers away from the city of Hue.
It is a festival filled with lots of pomp and color and just like the other Vietnam festivals and events it has some mythical or religious connotations to it.
The Hon Chen Temple Festival is related to the Cham legend, and celebrated to commemorate Thien Yana, the creator of land and trees.
Several rituals are performed during the Honchen Temple Festival in Vietnam. The merriment begins with a parade known as the ‘God Welcoming Ceremony’. Then the Vietnamese gather shrines of all the god’s worshipped by them, under one roof in the communal house. After that they the carry out various rites followed by another procession during the night for the Saint Mother Thien herself. On the Perfume River decorated with shining lights, rows of boats are tied up together to form a chain of rafts on which the parade takes place.
The celebrations of the Hon Chen Temple Festival, Vietnam also comprises of acts performed by costumed characters dressed up like royal people from the Nguyen Empire. The performances are usually done amidst natural surroundings like hills and river, making it more realistic. Clad in grand robes and turbans they surely put up a fabulous show.
The Hon Chen Temple Festival, Vietnam taking place two times in a year is very popular among the localities and also welcomes tourists from all over, to take part in the merry making.
